Where Should You Shoot a Fish?

Shooting a fish should be done with caution. I have found that almost every single time that I have shot a fish in a rush I have paid the price for it! You are best off waiting for a perfect (or near perfect) shot so that you get the fish properly. In saying this, there sure is a fine line between waiting too long to shoot a fish and not waiting long enough! Some fish species get spooked very quickly and you need to take the shot as fast as possible, whilst others will hang around. Some fish will even hang around after you have had a shot at them and missed!
The best place to shoot a fish is one where it stops the fish from moving. Ideally, this is in the brain or head of the fish but this is quite a small target and is not always easy to hit! Some fish have a lot of bones that protect the head region, and you need a very powerful gun to get through it or you need to shoot them on an angle that misses the bones. The alternative is somewhere along the spine, but again this isn’t always that easy to hit! If you hit the spine the fish gets paralyzed, and you can pull it in and then kill the fish without too much trouble.
If you are not confident, then shooting the fish right in the middle of the stomach is often a good way to go. This is especially the case when you are shooting fish that are small, although you ruin the fillets by doing this!
