Bookkeeping is a popular course among school leavers or working adults. This is partly because the cost of bookkeeping subjects are rather affordable as compared to other courses. In addition, the knowledge that you learn is practical and work related.

It is generally agreed that with a bookkeeping paper qualification, it would be easier to secure a job.

But the question here is: should you take up a bookkeeping course? It does not matter whether it is online based or not. It is always advisable to consider if you are interested to choose bookkeeping as your long term career.

If you are already holding a bookkeeping related job, you are always encouraged to upgrade yourself by taking up more courses. Having a bookkeeping qualification can improve your chances of being promoted and helps to build up your capability and knowledge.

However, if you are still considering whether to sign up for a bookkeeping course or not, you first have to ask yourself whether it is something that you are interested in. Other than interest, you should also be comfortable with figures because it involves a lot of calculation.

Another important consideration is that you have to be well versed with computer in view that most of the bookkeeping works have been computerized. You should also be comfortable with typing using computer. This is part and parcel of today’s bookkeeping job.

Lastly, you are advised to reconsider your decision if you do not like figures. It will be a waste of time of studying something that you don’t like.
