Finding a Good Speargun

Fishing with a speargun is enjoyed by many thousands of different sports enthusiasts, and contrary to popular belief, it is not just a tropical saltwater sort of thing. While laws can vary from country to country, in the United States this type of fishing is legal in almost every state, although you will want to make sure to check out local laws and rules when it comes to this type of fishing.

First see if there are any restrictions on the type of speargun that is allowed. There are many different designs, many different set ups, and you don’t want to have one type of speargun while only another is allowed. Matching up the right type of equipment only makes sense. You wouldn’t use an ultralight fishing rod with four pound test line to go fishing for northern pike, so why would you use the wrong equipment when going to spear a fish?

The next is to compare the various models and companies that manufacture spearguns for fishing. There are many different companies involved in this business and some of them, like Mares and Omer, are considered solid rocks, while other companies don’t have such a good reputation. Just like any industry, some are just going to work better than others.

Finally, if you have a chance to handle the speargun before making a purchase, this is always recommended. What fits and works comfortably for one person might be a disaster for you. Finding this out ahead of time and making sure you’re matched up perfectly will make your future fishing expeditions much better.
