2010 Federal Tax Return for Unemployment has various tax benefits associated that federal government is giving for unemployed people.

In 2010, the US Recovery Act intends to provide $288 billion in tax cuts and benefits for millions of working families and businesses in USA.

Here are some of the top 2010 Tax return benefits -

1. Earned Income Tax credit – This is REFUNDABLE credit (personal tax credits reduce your taxes but refundable tax credits provide you a good refund) which was already there but it’s been earmarked for those with minimal income who have qualifying children. The credit percentage has been increased for 2010, to a good 45%.

In 2010 Federal Tax Return for Unemployed, following are some of the qualifying characteristics for availing Earned Income Credit:

* If You have three or more qualifying children and you earn less than $43,352 ($48,362 if married filing jointly),

* If You have two qualifying children and you earn less than $40,363 ($45,373 is married filing jointly),

* If You have one qualifying child and you earn less than $35,535 ($40,545 if married filing jointly), or

* If You do not have a qualifying child and you earn less than $13,460 ($18,470 if married filing jointly).

The amounts of the 2010 federal credit have been increased. The amounts you can get for 2010 are:

* $3,050 if you have one qualifying child, or

* $5,036 if you have two qualifying children, or

* $5,666 if you have three or more qualifying children, or

* $457 if you do not have a qualifying child.

2. Tax Exemption – Another relief can be with respect to the 2010 federal unemployment income. For 2010 federal return, the first $2,400 of unemployment income will be tax exempt. This exclusion only applies to unemployment compensation paid as part of a government program, not for private supplemental plans through an employer or any union.

3. Work Pay credit – This 2010 Federal benefit is available to unemployed people having income tax of 6.2 percent of earned income, up to a maximum credit of $400 for individuals, or $800 if married. This is only eligible to U.S. citizens, but is phased out for individuals with income equal to $75,000 or higher.
